Aura VPN does not allow you to choose a location for the server you’re connecting to. We ran two speed tests, one without a VPN (control) and one with Aura’s VPN active.

When using Aura VPN, our PING increased from 8 to 48 ms, with a download speed reduction of 76% and an upload speed reduction of 22%. The industry average decrease in internet speed from activating a VPN is 10%, assuming you use the server closest to your location. Aura’s server was located in New York, USA, likely the nearest US location to ours.

While Aura’s VPN results in a speed decrease, which will be even worse if you are far from the US, it could still be useful in protecting you during basic web browsing activities, especially combined with the rest of Aura’s security tools.
